Greensboro, NC -- A teenager died following a multi-vehicle crash on I-40 eastbound near High Point Road Sunday evening around 6 p.m. More than a half-dozen other people were also hurt.

Greensboro police say 15-year-old Darryl Baucum died at Moses Cone Memorial Hospital. Eight other people also went to the hospital. Doug Allred, a spokesman for Moses Cone Health Systems, says their conditions remain unknown.

Grensboro officers say they are still trying to piece together how the wreck happened. It involved a tractor-trailer and five passenger cars.

Police reopened all eastbound lanes just before 10 p.m. Traffic was slowed again just hours later when another serious crash happened along the same stretch of road.

The NC Department of Transportation is providing a detour. You can view it in the Special Alert section of the department's webpage by clicking here.
