Greensboro, NC --
UPDATE: No one will be charged in the shooting death of 21-year-old Rance Slaughter on June 3rd. That's what Guilford County Assistant District Attorney Howard Neumann tells WFMY News 2.
Neumann said the shooting began with an argument between several men in the parking lot of Northwinds Apartments on Lees Chapel Road. He says one man ran away and into the apartment where he was staying.
Neumann says Slaughter, Dominick Williams, and Michael Mays followed and banged on the apartment door until they kicked it in. That's when someone inside fired a fatal shot at Slaughter.
Williams and Mays are each charged with first-degree burglary and simple assault.
Mays is also accused of throwing blood in an officer's face. He's also charged with assaulting a government employee.
The Greensboro Police Department is investigating a shooting at an apartment complex.
Police say the shooting happened at the Northwinds Apartments at 8:47 p.m. Thursday evening.
Investigators say they found one man shot to death in the breezeway of the apartment complex. He was later identified as Rance Slaughter, 21.
Another man, Michael Mays, suffered a hand injury but was not shot. Officers say he fought with them before going to Moses Cone Hospital.
Police say they first got the call as a disturbance, a fight, and then a shooting.
