Raleigh, NC -- The trial is set to begin for a doctor charged with murder in a wreck that killed a 20-year-old ballerina.

Multiple media outlets reported the trial of Raymond Dwight Cook of Raleigh is scheduled to start in Raleigh on Monday.

Cook faces charges of second-degree murder, felony death by vehicle and driving while impaired.

The 43-year-old former plastic surgeon is accused of driving 85 mph when he struck the car of Winston-Salem ballerina Elena Bright Shapiro in September 2009. Shapiro was a trainee with the Carolina Ballet and started dancing when she was 10 years old.

Since the wreck, Cook has given up his medical license and spent time in an alcohol treatment facility.
