High Point, NC -- Sochan Rumthao and his three kids ran from their home Wednesday when a plane crashed into it.

In the days since the crash, the Rumthao family has seen an outpouring of support from the community.

"I want to thank fire department, the paramedical. I want to thank the police department and I want to thank my church, my colleagues at work, my friends who have stepped forward and helped me in many ways. I am not able to pay you back, but thank you," he said getting choked up.

He spoke with WFMY News 2 at his house Saturday.

"I'm overwhelmed with their big heart and their love for me. Hard to comprehend that there are many that loves me and it's amazing to know this," said Rumthao.

MaryJo Rumbaugh, the neighbor who took in the family after the accident, gave Rumthao a notebook Saturday.

"You have a story to tell and I have a story to tell, so it's nothing fancy, it's just a little notebook but I put in here, 'for our brother Sochan may you be inspired to sit alone with God and write your miraculous story of his grace," she said.

Members of Westchester Baptist Church, where the Rumthao family attends, are also rallying around the family.

"They're throw quilts where they can wrap up in and we make them with love and we pray over them," said Theressa Smith, showing quilts she and others made for the three Rumthao children.

The family had been staying with Rumbaugh's family since the night of the accident, but Rumthao said they are now staying in a guest house at an apartment complex, and are moving into an apartment in a few days.

"I guess this is life," he said. "We come empty handed. We go empty handed. That's what I felt when I run up with only my socks and my children as well."
