Update: Driver In Deadly Wrong-Way Crash Moved To Jail

Greensboro, NC -- A 20-year-old was booked in the Guilford County Jail Monday after spending several days in the hospital.

Greensboro Police said Ian Michael Smith was driving his 2007 Mitsubishi Eclipse the wrong-way on West Market Street when he hit a small pickup. An officer said he tried to stop Smith before the wreck, but Smith was driving too fast in the wrong direction. The officer stopped when he lost sight of Smith's car.

The driver of the truck, Marcial Aragon Colmillo, and a passenger, Juan Carlos Cortes, died in the crash. Another passenger in the truck wasn't seriously injured. Smith's passenger also wasn't seriously hurt.

Smith was originally charged with DWI and driving after consuming under the age of 21. Investigators now added one careless and reckless driving charges, plus two counts each of felony serious injury by motor vehicle, felony death by motor vehicle and second degree murder.

Smith is in the Guilford County Jail with a $500,200 bond.
