Greensboro, NC -- Within the past few weeks, gas prices around the Triad have seen up to a 20 cent difference. According to AAA experts in Greensboro, the reason may be because of local station owners.
AAA's research revealed that the average price for regular unleaded gas in the Piedmont Triad is $3.76.
AAA said the difference in costs happens because gas station owners in the Triad may be setting higher prices for a larger profit.
"The gas stations even though the prices are dropping, that's kind of their opportunity to maybe add a little more padding into it so we may not see it as low as what we expect," said AAA Branch Manager Amanda Notarfonzo.
Even with the price range, AAA's study showed that the Triad has the lowest gas average of all metro areas in the state of North Carolina.
