Greensboro, NC -- You might want to keep your eyes open because you just might spot a bear.

A black bear cub was spotted in a Greensboro backyard on Saturday and was still in the area Sunday.

People across Greensboro sent in pictures of a bear spotted across Greensboro. Most of the sightings were called in to Greensboro Police from Northern side of the city.

The bear was first seen at Country Park on Saturday afternoon.

The bear was later seen at the Circle K Gas Station and Domino's Pizza parking lots at Battleground Avenue and New Garden Road.

One witness, Bryan Cleveland, said he saw the bear run across his front yard, climb a tree, then climbed back down, run across his backyard and climb over his fence into his neighbor's backyard.

"I was surprised, nervous, the only word I can say is bewildered because you don't expect a bear in your backyard in the city," said Cleveland.

Officials with the North Carolina Wildlife Resources Commission said the bear weighs anywhere between 60 and 80 pounds. Wildlife officials have spotted the bear but decided not to capture it at this time.

Residents are asked to stay away from the area in the hopes that the cub will wander back to his mother on his own. Police are asking anyone in the area to put pet food inside and secure pets until the bear leaves.

If you see a bear in your area you can call the North Carolina Wildlife Resource Commission's dispatch office to report it. The number is (919) 707-0030.
