Gibsonville, NC -- Guilford County Sheriff B.J. Barnes said two retired officers recently hired to look at cold cases will focus solely on the 2006 fire at Eastern Guilford High School.
Barnes said the investigation into the fire was never closed. Investigators determined the fire was intentionally set but nobody was ever charged.
The fire started Nov. 1, 2006, in an empty chemistry lab on the second floor of the high school in Gibsonville and quickly spread in the building, which had no sprinklers. No one was hurt, and no one was ever charged.
Barnes said no additional suspects have been identified in the case, however a "person of interest" they were looking into since 2007 remains part of the investigation.
