Winston-Salem, NC -- They lost their daughter to a drunk driver.
Now they've lost an image of her life.
Raymond Cook is serving three to four years for driving drunk and killing Elena Shapiro.
For more on the conviction --- Raymond Cook Found Guilty.
Now, just as the family is moving forward with their lives, someone stole a mural of their daughter.
Elena was a ballerina and the tile mural showed her doing what she loved.
Who would take this? And why?
Only the screws that held it to the wall were left behind.
Whoever took Elena's mural had to go through some trouble to get to it.
You can see it from the road, but you can't get to it without having to go through a gate.
It weighed more than 100 pounds.
"It's a very heart wrenching situation knowing what this dear family has been through," said Winston-Salem Police Captain, David Clayton.
Clayton said the police are doing everything they can to locate the mural and return it to the Shapiros.
The Shapiros said they don't want to prosecute anyone.
They just want the mural back.
They're asking for it to be returned to the police, or leave it against a tree in their yard.
If you know anything about this stolen mural --- call your local police.
