Burlington, NC-- A suspect ran out of luck and places to hide after breaking into a house, while officers were looking for him.
The manhunt started around 1:22am Thursday, when Burlington Police Officers were called to the 800 block of Danbrook Rd to assist the North Carolina Highway Patrol on a suspect who had run from a traffic stop on foot.
Troopers said they had attempted to stop a driver on I-40 in Guilford County, and the person failed to yield and sped off. The Trooper chased the suspect who crashed his vehicle in Burlington near University Dr. Officers said the man jumped from the car and ran off.
While officers were setting up a perimeter and beginning to utilize the K-9 for a track, officers received a call for service in the 1000 block of Kelso Lane for a reported Break-In in progress. That section of Kelso Lane is only several hundred feet from where the crash occurred. Officers responded and located the suspect who had broken into an occupied residence and was being detained by the homeowner.
Officers took over and placed the man under arrest. The man is identified as Stephon Prather of Greensboro. Prather is charged with Breaking & Entering, Resist Delay and/or Obstruct, Injury to Real Property and Misdemeanor Possession of Marijuana by the Burlington Police Department.
The NCSHP charged him with numerous traffic violations including DWI and Felony Speed to Elude.
Prather was taken to the hospital for injuries he sustained while breaking into the house on Kelso Lane.
