Will Caviness Died While Running To Raise Money For Charity

Greensboro, NC -- The American Red Cross honored Triad heroes Monday night as part of its annual "Salute to Heroes."

This year, the Red Cross is honoring 13 men and women who saved lives and changed lives.

One of those men is Will Caviness.

Caviness was a Greensboro Firefighter who died while running the Chicago Marathon to raise money for burn victims.

On WFMY News 2 at 6, Tanya Rivera spoke with Caviness' brother, Sean Caviness.

Sean Caviness said his brother's effort raised more than $20,000 for burn victims.

He said Will Caviness was "always dedicated to giving to people. He started out lifeguarding as a teenager and when he got on the fire department, he finally, he finally made it." Will Caviness volunteered for the Youth Firefighter's Academy.

Sean Caviness said it's tough to be at the "Salute to Heroes," but their family appreciates and finds comfort in Will's recognition.
