Greensboro, NC-- Some Guilford County Elementary students took a chance in a million when they sent letters to 1600 Pennsylvania Ave in Washington, DC.

Students at Sumner Elementary School wrote Mrs. Obama last fall describing their own plans to plant a garden. The students thanked the first lady for encouraging Americans to eat better and live healthier.

Friday, the students were still smiling from ear to ear and buzzing with excitement after learning that the letter was read by the first lady. And that she had invited them to come for a visit this Sunday.

Sumner Elementary School principal Thyais Maxwell said she, five third-graders, and two teachers will be on hand Monday as First Lady Michelle Obama supervises the annual spring planting of the White House vegetable garden.

They leave Sunday morning and will travel by Amtrak out of Greensboro.
