Graham, NC -- After more than four years of planning, Alamance County will soon have a place to honor its heroes.

Construction has started on the "Fallen Heroes Memorial."  As of now, the site will honor 15 men and women who died while serving in Alamance County, or those born in Alamance County, who died elsewhere while serving.

Law enforcers, firefighters and emergency responders will all be remembered.  The monument will have the names, date of death and department from which each hero served.

"We're like a big family, and once we lose one of our brothers then it's like taking a piece of that puzzle away," said Capt. Steve Lineberry, E.M. Holt Fire Department.

Donations and fundraisers are paying for the memorial, and one of the fundraisers to help the financing will be on May 12.

Here's a link to more information about the fundraiser.
