Greensboro, NC -- The arts community believes Greensboro needs a new performing arts center, but it's going to take $30 million of your tax money.
It's being billed as a big job creator and money maker for downtown.
Seventy-five people showed up at two forums on Thursday to hear the pitch in person, a third took place later in the day.
The performing arts center or "GPAC" would have 2,500 to 2,8000 seats, and is being proposed for downtown Greensboro.
Organizers estimate it would bring in more than $7 million a year, creating more than 260 jobs, and featuring 160 performances each year.
The city council is considering putting a $30 million bond on the November ballot.
Another $10 million would come from the hotel/motel tax and an additional $10 million would come from private investors.
