Greensboro, NC-- Two days after hearing the news about a fallen Petty Officer from Greensboro, his high school is remembering.
Petty Officer 2nd Class Sean E. Brazas, of Greensboro, NC died on Wednesday, May 30 while conducting combat operations in Panjwa'l, Afghanistan.
Brazas graduated from Western Guilford High in Greensboro. During his military career, Petty Officer Brazas worked with military war dogs.
Thursday night, WFMY News 2 spoke with Brazas' father, Ed Brazas who said his his family is numb, just absolutely numb. The news has hit them hard. His son Sean Brazas died while helping a fellow officer get into a helicopter. He said Brazas' unit was ambushed.
Petty Officer Sean Brazas leaves behind a wife and 13 month old child who live in Washington State. He is a graduate of Western Guilford High School.
Mr. Ed Brazas said when Sean told him he wanted to join the military he asked him why? He said Sean told him because he wanted his father, mother and sister to be safe.
Sean Brazas was assigned to Naval Base Kitsap Security Detachment in Bremerton, Wash.
Ed Brazas said there will be a memorial service for Sean in Greensboro. He said there will be one in Arlington next week.
