Parents received phone calls about the delayed opening on Friday, August, 17th with just ten days until the first day of school.

Right after the announcement was made, News 2 received phone calls and e-mails from frustrated parents. Many parents have questions regarding why the announcement was made with such little notice. Others are concerned with the switching back and forth and all the change for so many young students.

One parent, Warditra Hughes actually moved based on the elementary school her daughter will attend. However, when the district drew the redistricting lines, her daughter was moved to McNair Elementary School. Now, Hughes has to accept that her second-grade child will either go to Jesse Wharton.

Hughes said, "To explain to a second grader that you're not going to be going to a school that you have been talked to about for months, it's kind of hard."

Other parents voiced their concerns at a meeting held at Brightwood Elementary School on Wednesday at 6pm.

"Why did they wait until the last minute to make the announcement? Most of the construction people that we talked to said there's no way the school was going to be ready," said Kim Dobson, a 4th Grade Parent.

However, it's parents of the youngest students that seem most concerned, afraid that their kindergarten child won't get the right start.

Dakotah Rickard has a son starting kindergarten. Rickard said, " I think it would have been a great idea to let the parents know, so we can let our children know that this might be going on."

Many questions were answered for parents at the meeting especially about transportation and teacher assignments. However, one question still remains: when will McNair actually open for students?

The district told News 2 they are working on a more precise time frame they should announce by Friday.
