Kernersville, NC -- Police Chief Ken Gamble has been cited after hitting two detained suspects with his patrol car July 15, according to the Town of Kernersville.

District Attorney Jim O'Neill announced Chief Gamble will be cited with Failure to Reduce Speed to Avoid an Accident.

The Highway Patrol conducted the investigation, and the DA's office reviewed all evidence before making a decision.

Gamble will not appeal the ruling.

The chief will have to complete a Precision Driving course, but he'll be allowed to return to work Wednesday.

The town released this statement:

"The Town of Kernersville, Chief Gamble, and the Kernersville Police Department regret the incident and continue to hope for the full recovery of everyone involved."
