Whether you voted early or today you should listen to WFMY News 2's Tanya Rivera's Commentary from our 5pm newscast.
Entire text of commentary: America is not perfect, far from it. But it is a country built on a better future. Remember the history books-- a more perfect union. When you take different sides, different opinions, different thoughts and try to mesh them together-- it's not perfect.
But what it is, is an exercise in freedom. The clash of ideas and thoughts is sometimes pretty messy. By design, not everyone is going to happy with every outcome. But the key is, your voice gets to be heard. you and i are free to think different ways, express those thoughts, and take action to change our city, state and country.
With a vote, we are all created equal, regardless of how much money we make, how much education we have, our social status. So often, we say we don't have time, don't want to get in the middle of it, don't want waste our time for an outcome we may not agree with.
When we use those excuses, we know we have lost perspective. The government isn't going to hurt you, your family, or put you in jail because of what you think or how you want things to change.
Soldiers aren't threatening to shoot you because of how you vote.
America is not perfect. But it is free. You are free; to agree, disagree, to vote. I did and I hope by the time the polls close you''ll be able to say you did.
