Pilot Mountain, NC-- A controlled burn in a NC State Park jammed 911 center lines and later cause problems for firefighters when it jumped the fire line.
On Thursday, the NC Forestry Service held a control burned in Pilot Mountain State Park along the upper portions of the mountain. Surry County 911 said they were swamped with people calling, because they could see smoke and thought there was a big fire some where in the area.
The 911 center asked the media for help getting out the word that it was a controlled burn and to please not call 911.
Around 4pm, Fire Marshal Doug Jones said the fire jumped a line in a three acre area and for a very short time was considered out of control.
He said crews from other fire departments were called into assist and it was contained within minutes.
Jones said no homes, other property or people were ever in danger.
