Greensboro, NC -- While most of the focus about the Hostess Brands shutdown has been focused on Twinkies, Ho Hos and Ding Dongs, dozens of people in the Piedmont will be losing their jobs at bakery outlet stores.
There are at least 12 Merita Bakery Outlet locations around the Triad. They'll be closed, their equipment liquidated and the employees let go in the next few days.
The clerk inside the Randleman Road location said she wasn't allowed to talk to on-camera about the situation, but customers weren't shy about their disappointment.
"I'm a little teary-eyed, choked up and everything," shopper Adriane Lindsay said. "It's just hard."
Lindsay has only eaten one brand of bread her whole life -- Merita.
"I grew up on this bread," she said. "It's been 67 years."
Customers were also concerned about the local employees who are losing their jobs because of a labor dispute they weren't even involved with.
"I would just like to send my sympathy to the employees that have lost their jobs," shopper Tiara Talford said. "I hope that they find other employment real soon."
