Winston-Salem, NC -- The Winston-Salem City Council voted unanimously to grant a multi-million dollar incentive package to Herbalife in Monday night's meeting.

Herbalife would bring 493 jobs to the Triad.

The council hopes the $2.25 million package will be enough to encourage the nutrition firm to call Winston-Salem its new home. Councilman James Taylor, Jr. told News 2 he thinks this is a good, aggressive move on the city's part.

Councilmembers opened the floor to public comment, but only one citizen spoke. And, with his vote of confidence, no one in the room openly opposed the decision.

As part of the package, the City of Winston-Salem will give Herbalife $450,000 up front and another $1.8 million over the next seven years, Taylor said.

The city will also net $2.9 million during that seven-year period.

Herbalife's final decision comes down to a plant in Winston-Salem or Atlanta. Working in Winston-Salem's favor is the vacant Dell factory. If Herbalife moves to the city, it can take over that building, but if it chooses Atlanta, it will have to build a new plant.

The council hopes this, along with the approved incentive package, will help sway Herbalife.

For now, the council will play the waiting game as the nutrition firm makes its final decision.
