The two people charged in the hit-and-run accident that killed Tar Heel Sports Network reporter Stephen Gates last October have been indicted by a grand jury.

Rabah Samara and Emily Caveness are charged with both felony hit and run and misdemeanor hit and run.

Their next court date is May 25th at 10 a.m in Orange County, where the two are expected to enter a plea.

Gates was killed on the Interstate 85 ramp that merges into eastbound Interstate 40. He was returning to his home in Durham after a visit to his family when he pulled over to check a flat tire. He was struck by a Cadillac Escalade as he was stepping out of his vehicle.

Authorities say Caveness moved over to the passenger seat after the accident. Samara, who was a passenger in the Escalade, allegedly took over the wheel and left the scene.
