Greensboro, NC --Widely scattered showers will move into the Triad Friday night, but expect more of a wintry mix in the foothills.

A storm system will track northeast out of the Gulf States and into the Mid-Atlantic bringing with it a large swath of precipitation. As the precipitation arrives from west to east there will be a transition from sleet and freezing rain to snow in the mountains with a rain/snow/sleet mix in the foothills.

A Winter Weather Advisory is in effect for the mountain until noon Saturday.

Light rain will begin in the foothills around 9pm with snow and sleet mixing in after midnight. The precipitation will likely arrive in the Triad around midnight, but temperatures will remain above freezing producing just rain.

The foothills should not expect much in the way of snow/sleet accumulation except for the higher elevations to the west which could receive a light dusting. Rainfall totals, however, across the entire area will be around a quarter of an inch.

The mountains can expect snowfall totals to range between 1-2 inches with the higher amounts possible in isolated locations.

Scattered showers in the Triad will gradually taper off by midday Saturday as the storm system moves to the northeast.
