Greensboro, NC -- A Walmart Neighborhood Market will move into the former Borders Books building located at 3605 High Point Road by the end of 2013.

Walmart spokesperson William Wertz told WFMY News 2, "We are just finishing up all the permitting required and should be going out for bids after the first of the year. We hope to have it open before the end of the year, but don't have a specific date at this point."

Neighborhood Markets are a smaller version of the retail store. They are typically about a quarter of the size of a Supercenter or 40,000 square feet. Walmart Neighborhood markets are predominantly a grocery store and a pharmacy with a smaller selection of other products than you might find in a more traditional Walmart.

Most of the 215 stores nationwide employ 90-95 associates. The first one opened in 1998. There is one other Neighborhood Market in North Carolina. It's located in Cary.

Greensboro Economic Development Alliance President Dan Lynch said more and more companies are becoming interested in revamping and remodeling existing spaces.  "We've been going through the downturn since 2009. So, I think there is pent-up demand and I think as companies feel more certain about what direction the market is going in, they will be more inclined to grow and expand," he said.
