Washington, DC (WUSA) - In the wake of the Manti Te'o faux girlfriend scandal, many are wondering how could he have not known?

The practice of "catfishing" is the subject of a show on MTV, that aims to uncover the truths and lies of online dating, and a local woman told her story of being "catfished" on the show's second episode. Trina "the Natural" sat doen with WUSA9 to explain how the phenomenon could potentially happen to anyone.

Trina says there weren't red flags. "Lee, he was just so sweet, like the conversation, that's the first thing to a good relationship. It's terrible that I don't, it's not really him."

The Silver Spring model/dancer says she started talking to a man named Lee after meeting on Myspace. They carried on an online relationship for about a year. Lee sent Trina three pictures during that time, but it turns out they were of someone else.

The show brought Trina and Lee together, and Trina was faced with the reality that the man she fell in love with over the phone was 32 instead of 27, had four children instead of two, and did not have the six-pack abs and model good looks seen in the pictures.

"It was so heartbreaking, I'm talking to a guy who I'm thinking is this guy, and the whole time, it's another guy with a whole different background, got family, kids, you know, things of that nature , and I'm 24 years old thinking we share the same, similar dreams and things like that and everything was a fake."

"I wish that the one I was talking to pretending as Scorpio was really the one."

Trina says she believes this can happen to anyone.
