Triad --  Who doesn't love guacamole? Avocados are tasty and good for you too. They have heart healthy fats that no other fruit has.  (Yes, it is actually a fruit.)

Sure, you can go to the grocery store to buy them. For those who want a little extra challenge and have a lot more patience, why not grow your own? It's easy to get started.

  • Cut a fresh, ripe avocado and remove the seed.
  • Put three toothpicks in the seed about 1/3 of the way from the top.
  • Balance it on top of a cup.
  • Fill the cup with water- covering the bottom about an inch.
  • Keep it out of direct sunlight and make sure you keep the water level up.
  • After about six weeks, you'll see a stem and roots forming.
  • Let the roots grow to 7", then cut them back to 3".
  • Then, it's time to plant!

In 7-15 years, it will begin producing fruit. It's not a small undertaking, but worth the effort (if you really like avocados!)
