GREENSBORO, N.C. - UNCG junior guard Trevis Simpson (Douglas, Ga./Coffee) was named the Southern Conference Men's Basketball Track Athlete of the Month for January, the league office announced Thursday. Simpson leads the SoCon and ranks 15th in the nation in scoring as he averages 19.7 points per game.

Simpson averaged 19.5 points per game for the Spartans in January, eclipsing 20 points four times. He was slowed in the beginning of the month due to injuries but responded by scoring in double figures each of his final six contests. He shot 78.4 percent (29-of-37) from the free throw and 38.6 percent (17-of-44) from three-point land in the month. Additionally, he was named the SoCon Player of the Week Jan. 29.

Simpson had an impressive two-game stretch during the month where he scored 71 points in victories over Samford and Chattanooga. The 71 points in back-to-back games is the most by any SoCon player this season and the third most by any player this year NCAA Division I. He scored 30 points in the win over Chattanooga, including the Spartans' final 14 points of the game.

Simpson followed that performance up with a career-high 41 points against Chattanooga. The 41 points were a UNCG Division I-era school record and the third most points scored in the Division I game this season. Additionally, he tied his career-high with seven three-pointers in the game while also grabbing seven rebounds.

Simpson and the Spartans return to action tonight as they face Furman in Greenville, S.C., at 7 p.m.
