Greensboro, NC -- The city council voted to give $20 million to help pay for a new performing arts center in downtown Greensboro.
The council agreed to pay its part for the future Greensboro Performing Arts Center in Tuesday night's meeting; the measure passed with a 6 to 3 vote.
The city will give $10 million in user fees and another $10 million from the city's capital fund to pay for the project. Councilmembers made it clear that the project will not require any taxpayer money.
Now, the goal is to find another $40 million. That's $20 million in private donations and another $20 million in the form of state and federal grants or bonds.
However, the council decided not to discuss grants and bonds in Tuesday's meeting.
