Greensboro -- Dozens of parents will have no place to take their children after Sunday when His Glory Child Development Center closes.
Friday, the daycare owner told WFMY News 2 that the landlord, Kotis Holdings, would not allow the business to renew its monthly lease.
WFMY News 2 spoke to parents who said they couldn't believe the landlord would put their kids on the street.
"It's pretty hateful you don't care about the children," Christina Gagnon said when asked what she would tell Kotis Holdings. "A lot of parents have to go to work. This is their only choice to drop children off at daycare. It's mean."
WFMY News 2 contacted Kotis Holdings who emailed this response:
"Ms. Foster informed us that she would be relocating her daycare to a new location in 2011, then later asked for an extension until the end of 2012 which we granted, and has continued to postpone the move due to delays on her part.
Last year we informed Ms. Foster that Piedmont Natural Gas was requiring changes in the Premises, as a high pressure pipeline runs near the playground. Ms. Foster was unwilling to make the changes to the premises to ensure the safety of the children under her care.
We regret that construction of her new premises have languished for almost two years, but we cannot be responsible for Ms. Foster's or her new landlord's delays. We feel her actions are irresponsible and unfortunately impact those parents and children that rely on her services."
The information center spoke to the daycare owner, Deborah Foster, to find out if what Kotis Holdings said was true. She said Kotis Holdings mentioned the change and knew about the high pressure pipeline, but was not told it needed to be done by a certain date.
Foster says she is only asking for two more months in this building. She says she is renovating a facility across the street but says it will not be complete until then.
If anyone would like to help the children and family, the daycare and parents are holding a rally at His Glory on Sunday at 5:00 p.m. The address is 3105 Yanceyville Street in Greensboro.
WFMY News 2 will continue to reach out to Kotis Holdings. More updated will be posted on Digtriad.com.
