Charlotte, NC -- Flight attendants opposed to the proposal to allow airline passengers to carry small knives onto planes are taking their protest to the public.

The attendants have scheduled a news conference for Thursday at Charlotte Douglas International Airport to continue dialogue with the traveling public as they try to keep knives off planes.

Leaders for US Airways flight attendants are scheduled to speak.

Last month, federal officials announced a delay in the policy that would have allowed passengers to carry small knives, bats and other sports equipment onto airliners. At the time, the Transportation Security Administration said the delay was necessary to accommodate feedback from an advisory committee made up of aviation industry, consumer, and law enforcement officials.

Last week, nine organizations filed a petition with the TSA opposing the policy.
