High Point, NC-- The city of High Point is looking for a new fire chief. The current fire chief is resigning after only a year on the job.

Tuesday, City Manager Stib Boynton announced that Fire Chief Rick McIntyre had submitted his resignation, which will be effective on July 31. The news release states that McIntyre was leaving to pursue other opportunities.

Boynton said the city thanks McIntyre for his service and dedication to the High Point community. McIntyre was sworn in as fire chief in July 2012.

City leaders plan to appoint an interim fire chief in the coming weeks. Before doing so, Boynton said he wants to talk with members of the fire department in 'town hall' style meetings. The plan is to focus on communication, teamwork work and define clear priorities for the entire fire department, Boynton said.
