LAKELAND, Fla. -- More Publix grocery stores are coming to North Carolina, but there are no confirmed locations in Greensboro, according to a Publix Super Markets Inc. spokesperson.

The announcement, made Friday, said two stores will open - one in Cary; one in Asheville.

The 49,000-square-foot store in Cary is tentatively planned to open in late 2014.

The Asheville store will be the same size, but will offer a drive-thru pharmacy. Publix said this store is expected to open in 2015.

"We've made a commitment to North Carolina and its residents to bring our level of stellar service and quality products to market in order to provide customers with the superior shopping experience they deserve," said Maria Brous, Publix media and community relations director, in a news release. "As company owners, we are passionately focused on our customers. We believe that if we take care of our associates, they in turn will take care of our customers, and together we will make our communities a better place. This is our culture, and we are excited about sharing it with North Carolina just as we have in the other five states in which we operate."

North Carolina's first Publix stores are all under construction. There are three in the Charlotte area - one of them is in Ballantyne - and are scheduled to open in 2014.

Publix currently has stores in Florida, Georgia, South Carolina, Alabama and Tennessee. The privately-owned grocery store chain employs about 160,000.
