Winston-Salem- A Winston-Salem church is cutting ties with the Boy Scouts of America.

Calvary Baptist Church is ending it's 60-year partnership with Old Hickory Council Boy Scouts of America after the national organization decided to allow openly-gay scouts.

It took Calvary Baptist Church three months to make this decision. Starting January 1st, they will no longer affiliate with the Boy Scouts of America.

WFMY News 2's Liz Crawford spoke to the church's pastor about the move.

"As a faith based organization , we must be true to ourselves and our own convictions and that's what this adjustment is about for us," said Rob Peters, the Senior Pastor at Calvary Baptist Church.

The church said that allowing openly gay participation in Boy Scouts compromises their moral standards.

Peters added, "We certainly are sad to see the Boy Scouts depart from their traditional Judeo-Christian value statements and obviously they're the ones that have left us. We have not deviated in our standards or our values. We're simply being asked to align ourselves with a set of new values."

Calvary Baptist says they'll allow members in the Eagle Scout process to achieve their awards before the end of the year. But come 2014, the partnership between the troop located just up the road is no more.

Steve Wilburn is the Scout Executive at Old Hickory Council Boy Scouts.

Wilburn said, "We were a little disappointed and sorry to hear them make that decision."

The Old Hickory Council Boy Scouts Of America in Winston-Salem serves eight counties and partners with 135 charter organizations, mostly churches, civic clubs, and veteran groups.

Along with Calvary, they expect another three to five organizations to drop their scouting affiliation.

"We are not changing that scout oath and that scout law. Those values are just as in effect for all children as they always have been for 100 years," added Wilburn.

Pastor Dr. Rob Peters told News 2 that Calvary Baptist plans to align with a group that was founded after the Boy Scouts made their decision to allow gay members. On My Honor teaches that sexual relations are between a man and a woman. Their first-ever national convention is next week.

Before the Boy Scouts decided to allow gay members, Elon University conducted a poll in North Carolina. Here are the results:

Do you think the Boy Scouts of America should continue its ban on openly gay members or end its ban on openly gay members?

Continue Ban    39%
End Ban            49%
Don't Know       11%
