High Point, NC - Two city council members have called for a special council meeting Thursday to call for the resignation of Mayor Bernita Sims.
The meeting will be at 9 a.m. in council chambers.
Several council members have gone on the record saying Sims' personal financial problems are interfering with her ability to lead.
Earlier this year, the State Bureau of Investigation said Sims wrote a bad check for $7,000 to a family member. The Attorney General's Office is still determining whether to file felony charges. The mayor also faced criticism for a delinquent utility bill, which she has now paid.
Mayor Sims has repeatedly said she will not step down.
