Caterpillar, Incorporated is one of the more prominent companies in our area.
Hundreds of people work in the Forsyth County plant and they employ thousands of people in our state. However, in 2013 their stock was among the five worst performing stocks in the Dow Jones Industrial Average.
Katie Arcieri with the Triad Business Journal stopped by to explain what this means for folks in our area. "Caterpillar took a beating last year with earnings and implemented a cost-cutting plan at its various facilities" but she says this should not affect the plant in Winston-Salem. It is actually expected to grow. The company says they plan to employ 500 people by the end of 2015.
Arcieri also discussed which companies are expanding and looking to hire more employees.
Aviation is a potentially big industry in our area. "Companies and schools like TIMCO and GTCC have already devoted a lot of effort to building an aviation and manufacturing pipeline of workers, and those efforts are expected to continue at both the high school and community college level in 2014."
Lastly, Herbalife is building a $100 million manufacturing and distribution hub and plans to add 500 employees by the end of 2015. Arcieri told us "the company expects to complete renovations to the facility earlier this year and employ 280 Herbalife workers in Winston-Salem by the end of 2014."
