Emergency Shelters Opening Across Triad

GREENSBORO, N.C. -- The city of Greensboro is opening Windsor Recreation Center on Monday evening for people without heat in their homes.

The shelter will open from 7 p.m. Monday until 7 a.m. Tuesday. The shelter requests you bring your own bedding and toiletries.

It will be staffed by the American Red Cross, the Guilford County Department of Social Services, Guilford County Emergency Services, and Guilford County Department of Public Health.

The shelter will provide public transportation to the recreation center from 6 p.m. - 10 p.m. from the Central Library branch located at 219 North Church St. in downtown Greensboro.

Windsor Recreation Center is located at 1601 East Lee St. in Greensboro.

Greensboro Urban Ministry will operate its winter overflow Monday night but you must have a valid photo ID. The shelter is located at 305 West Lee St. in Greensboro.

First Baptist Church on Fifth - 501 West 5th Street, Winston-Salem. Meet at Loaves and Fishes located at 657 West 5th Street in Winston-Salem at 7:00 p.m. to check in for a bed at the shelter. To contact First Baptist Church on Fifth call (336)722-2558.

Allied Churches of Alamance County - opens at 5:30 p.m. Monday and Tuesday, 206 North Fisher St. in Burlington. You must register for a bed and it will be assigned to you at 7:30 p.m. You must bring a sleeping bag or blanket, and any prescribed medication. Check out is at 9 a.m. Tuesday and Wednesday mornings. No outside food is allowed.
