BOONE, N.C. -- North Carolina prosecutors and police plan to discuss developments in a case involving a faulty swimming pool heater at a Boone motel where three guests died from carbon monoxide poisoning.
A news conference is planned Wednesday to discuss the deaths at the Best Western Plus Blue Ridge Plaza. Two Washington state visitors died in April inside a motel room, but delays in investigating the cause led to an 11-year-old South Carolina boy dying in the same room in June. The boy's mother nearly died.
The Charlotte Observer reports that a grand jury is meeting Wednesday to consider possible criminal charges. A spokeswoman in District Attorney Jerry Wilson's office did not return calls seeking comment Wednesday.
