GREENSBORO, N.C. - Some experts say just like every other holiday, retailers use the Martin Luther King holiday to bring in shoppers.
But, is there a point where it becomes disrespectful?
WFMY News 2 talked to Dr. Matthew Brophy the Assisant Professor of Philosophy at High Point Unversity
Brophy said American's have positive feelings about Martin Luther King Junior, and retailers harness those positive feelings in order to see their products.
He said it's okay for stores to be open on Martin Luther King Jr. Day, but it's not okay to exploit MLK as a huckster for products.
For example, some nightclubs were marking MLK Day parties by photo of MLK wearing gold chains.
