WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. -- Winston-Salem police say a car crashed into a building early Tuesday morning.

It happened just before 6 a.m. at 4820 Bethania Station Rd.

Police say the driver hit a gas main, which caused the car to hit the building.

The fire department was able to stop a gas leak that happened because of the accident. They are currently checking the building's structure for safety. Police say evacuations are unnecessary.

EMS took the driver to a nearby hospital for treatment. Police say they have not yet determined if speed or alcohol were factors.

Anyone with information should call the Winston-Salem Police Department at (336) 773-7700.
