KERNERSVILLE, N.C. -- A former Kernersville Police Department Employee was been arrested.

During a routine check, evidence showed money had been taken.

They found Evidence Technician Wendy Vance took $9,800 from the facility.

The money was taken from cases where the funds were classified as evidence, unclaimed, and/or recovered.

The investigation is on going and a complete inventory of all items is being held.

Ms. Vance was fired Friday morning. She was hired in 2004 and worked as a records clerk and administrative assistant before she was promoted to property technician in 2007.

She's charged with larceny by employee, which is a felony.

Her bond is set at $10,000 and her court date is set for Feb. 20.

The Kernersville Police Department said these actions are not tolerated and Vance acted alone.

The issue was discovered by KPD personnel Tuesday, Jan. 28.
