Greensboro, NC -- Every day, they fight and risk their lives to protect our freedoms. But this week, tragedy hit close to home.
Army Specialist David Hickman died Monday, Nov. 13 in Iraq, when his unit was hit with an improvised explosive device. He was from greensboro and attended Northeast Guilford High School. He was just 24-years-old.
Sunday night, his family and friends held a candlelight vigil to share memories of David and to offer condolences to his mother.
At the vigil, Northeast's football coach announced the award for the school's defensive player of the year will now be named after Hickman.
One of David's friends, Lane Newsome, shared pictures from the vigil.
